Henry Ian Cusick is an Emmy Award-nominated actor, director, and filmmaker known for his work across television, film, theatre, and voice performance. Born in Peru, raised in Trinidad and Scotland, and now based in Hawai’i, Cusick trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland).
Cusick began his career as a classical theatre actor, performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal National Theatre, Almeida Theatre, Liverpool Playhouse, Citizens Theatre, and Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh. His performances as the title role in Torquato Tasso and as Creon in Oedipus earned him a Special Commendation at the Ian Charleson Awards.
Cusick gained international recognition as Desmond Hume in ABC’s Lost, earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2006. His performance also earned a Gold Derby Television Award and an Online Film & Television Association Award for Best Guest Actor, along with nominations from the Saturn Awards, Golden Nymph Awards, and other critics’ organizations. He shared a Gold Derby Television Award for Ensemble of the Year with the cast of Lost in 2008.
His television credits include starring roles as Stephen Finch in Scandal, Marcus Kane in The 100, Russ Taylor in MacGyver, and Dr. Jonas Lear in The Passage, as well as recurring roles in Fringe, The Mentalist, 24, Body of Proof, Marvel’s Inhumans, Big Sky, NCIS: Hawai’i, 9-1-1: Lone Star, and Butterfly. He voices Peet the Sock Man in The Wingfeather Saga.
His film work includes The Gospel of John, The Wind & the Reckoning, Jamojaya (Sundance Film Festival), Hitman, Rememory, The Girl on the Train, Frank vs. God, Just Let Go, Chimera Strain, Half Light, Pali Road, 9/Tenths, and Richard II. His performance in Chimera Strain earned him the Jury Award for Best Actor at the PDXtreme: Portland Underground Film Festival, and his performance in Visible received Best Actor in a Short Film at the Northeast Film Festival.
As a filmmaker, Cusick wrote, directed, and starred in the award-winning short film Dress, which received the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the Hawai’i International Film Festival. He also produced and starred in Visible, wrote, directed, and starred in Salvador, which premiered at the Hawai’i International Film Festival in 2025, and directed two episodes of The 100.
Recent projects include Los Vampires, Fugitive from Asteron, Bloodlust, Deluxe Ocean View, Bloodwood, and The Tourist Curse. Los Vampires, his first leading role performed entirely in Spanish, premiered at the 2026 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and will screen at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia in October 2026.
Cusick serves as President of SAG-AFTRA Hawai’i, advocating for performers and supporting the growth of Hawai’i’s film and television industry. He holds both U.S. and British citizenship.
